Florida Mold Licensing Laws - They Exist to Protect You!
Florida Mold Licensing Laws - They Exist to Protect You!

The Florida Statutes governing mold licensing and work in the State of Florida exist to ensure that hopefully only competent individuals and businesses are selling mold related services and equally important that the same business telling you that you have a mold problem is not also selling you the service to remediate it. Specifically, the Statute says, a person may not

"Perform or offer to perform any mold remediation to a structure on which the mold assessor or the mold assessor’s company provided a mold assessment within the last 12 months."

While this seems crystal clear, there are companies across the State of Florida violating it on a daily basis. These may be companies that do perfectly good work and have happy customers, but that does not make it right. The truth is that the money is made in the mold industry on the remediation side of the business. This is why so many companies are happy to offer "free inspections" because they know if they can buy your goodwill, they stand to make a lot of money on the fix. Usually for a small percentage of what you are going to spend on the fix, you can hire an unbiased licensed mold assessor who will help ensure that the remediator is following proper remediation protocols, not selling you more than you need, and most importantly ensuring that the contractor successfully removed all of the mold.

In closing, please do yourself a favor and at least have a conversation with a licensed mold assessor before you spend thousands of dollars addressing a mold problem. It could end up saving you thousands and ensuring that you and your family are safe.
